Medicare Supplement ( Medigap) plans are health plans offered by private insurance companies and standardized by the Federal Government. They are designed fill in some or all of the “gaps” not covered under Original Medicare. Medicare Supplement Plans do not include Prescription Drug coverage. When you enroll in a Medicare Supplement Plan, you use your Medicare Supplement and your Medicare card for services.
Medicare Supplement Plans allow you to budget your total health care costs. Dependant on the plan you choose, virtually all of your healthcare costs can be covered by the insurer. For example, you suffer a serious illness or accident requiring a five day hospital stay and your total healthcare bill is $100,000. After a $1,100 Part A deductible and $155.00 Part B deductible, Original Medicare would pay 80% of the Medicare approved amount and you are responsible for the remaining 20%. Depending on which New Jersey Medicare Supplement plan you select, all these expenses could be paid in full.
